Congratulations To Our Spring 2015 Award Winners

At last week’s Spring MAPLE Season Banquet at Prince Pizza, the following awards were presented:

Golden Boot – Recognizes the top goal scorer for the 2015 Spring MAPLE Season.
U10 – Asefa Thome
U11 – Liam O’Hara
U12 – Seamus Matthews
U13 – Nathan O’Gara, Ethan Pezzini and Cam Rosnov (tie)
U13 – Shea Champagne

Most Improved Player – Recognizes the player who has shown the greatest overall improvement in technical ability and on field performance during the course of the 2015 Spring MAPLE Season.
U10 – Tyler Tercetti
U11 – Kieran Dunn
U12 – Graham MacDonald
U13 – Zac Zibaitis
U15 – Owen Thorsteinsson

Unsung Hero – Honors the player who made a substantial yet unrecognized contribution to the team.  This player demonstrated courage, character and respect towards his teammates and coaches during the 2015 Spring MAPLE Season.

Mass Cup U12 Champions

Congratulations to the Melrose United U12 Mass Cup tournament team for winning this weekend’s Mass Cup Championship.  The team consisted of players from our U11 and U12 MAPLE teams and compiled a 5-0-0 record on their way to the title.

Mass Cup Update – U12s and U14s Advance To The Semi Finals

The Melrose United U12 and U14 Mass Cup tournament teams both advanced to Sunday’s semi-final round on Frasca Fields in Tewksbury.

The U12 qualified for the playoffs with a perfect 3-0-0 record in group play.  The U12 defeafted Andover Dynomite, Andover Blast and Tewksbury on their way to Sunday’s semi-final.  They will face Somerville at 8:30 AM on Sunday in one semi-final while Lynn will take on Tewksbury in the other U12 semi-final game.  The winners will play for the championship at 11:00 AM

The U14s also make the knockout rounds with a 2-1-0 performance in group play.  After two opening victories versus Taunton and Wakefield, the U14s fell to Medford in an exciting game to decide the group winner.  They will take on Tewksbury in one semi-final at 8:00 AM while Medford will face Everett in the second semi-final.  The winners will play for the championship at 10:30 AM

U09, U10 and U14 Tryouts Are Today On Fred Green Field

Due to the weather today, we are moving our tryouts from The Knoll to the turf on Fred Green Field.  U09 and U10 will try out from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM and U14 will try out from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.  Please register in advance if possible.  If you are unable to register in advance, please attend and sign up on site.

All new and returning players interested in playing for Melrose United this Fall should attend our 2015-2016 Tryouts.  The coaching staff will be evaluating each player’s technical and tactical skills via drills and scrimmages to ensure we are properly placed for the Fall MAPLE Season.  All tryouts will be held at the Knoll.

U09 – 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM on Fred Green Field
U10 – 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM on Fred Green Field
U14 – 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Fred Green Field

6 Melrose United Players Chosen For District Select Program

The District Select Program brings together players from across Massachusetts to compete in a series of weekly games in July and early August and culminates with the annual District Select Tournament.  All games are played at Mass Youth Soccer Fields at Progin Park in Lancaster.  District 5 encompasses 42 cities and towns stretching from East Boston to Amesbury.

Congratulations to the following Melrose United players who tried out and were chosen to represent District 5 in the Massachusetts Youth Soccer District Select Program this summer.
