The U12 and U14 teams both captured the 2016 Mass Cup today at Frasca Fields in Tewksbury.
The U12 team began their title run by winning all three of their group stage games with victories over Tewksbury, Billerica and Lowell. They entered the final as the top seed and defending champion and came away with a 4-1 victory over Billerica to retain their Mass Cup title.
The U14s battled through the group stage with a 1-2 record after close losses vs. North Andover (0-1) and Tewksbury (2-3). A gutsy 3-2 win vs. Fairhaven in their final group game left them as the fourth seed entering today’s knockout rounds. In the semi finals the U14s defeated top seed and host Tewksbury 2-0 avenging Saturday’s 3-2 loss. In the Finals they captured their first Mass Cup with a 2-0 victory over third seeded Wakefield.
Congratulations to all the Melrose United teams that participated in this year Mass Cup tournament.
